With the inauguration of Donald Trump as the next president of the United States now two weeks away, progressives around the country are becoming increasingly worried that the erratic temperament, offensive commentary, and inappropriate conduct that defined the president elect’s entire campaign will soon become the new norm for the next four years.

Trump’s failure to moderate his behavior since defeating Hillary Clinton two months ago has further motivated us here at PTP to help elect Democrats nationwide to hold his administration accountable. We are interested in what our supporters think about Donald Trump’s conduct since the election and the members he has chosen to fill his cabinet, who will soon be tasked with running the country.

Of the more than 20,000 supporters who responded to our recent online survey, 97% stated they did not vote for Trump in the 2016 election, and 90% believe that the Electoral College should not have cast their vote for Trump.

With regards to his cabinet picks, 95% of our supporters knew that Donald Trump selected a climate change denier to run the E.P.A.; 91% knew that Trump selected a Secretary of Education who doesn’t believe in public schools; and 85% knew that he selected a senior advisor who is a neo-Nazi.

80% of our supporters were aware that Donald Trump has pledged to give his children top secret security clearances, and an unsurprising 97% think it is absolutely NOT okay to have a president who has openly admitted to and bragged about sexually assaulting women.

With his track record as a businessman who has routinely skirted around the rules in order to benefit himself, it is essential that Democrats in government remain vigilant over the next four years to hold him accountable for his actions and ensure that he does not violate the law in pushing forward his aggressive agenda. Our supporters overwhelmingly agree (
88%) that getting more Democrats engaged in our future elections is the key to stopping Trump and future demagogues like him from abusing power, which is why we are committed to building our network of progressive voters around the country.
