PROGRESSIVE TURNOUT PROJECT LAUNCHES VOTER TURNOUT PROGRAM IN TARGETED VIRGINIA HOUSE OF DELEGATE DISTRICTS

[CHICAGO, IL] – Progressive Turnout Project (PTP), a national Democratic political action committee that implements on-the-ground field efforts, is launching a voter turnout program in targeted competitive Virginia House of Delegate seats up for election on November 7, 2017. PTP has hired a Virginia Director to lead this effort and will hire more than thirty additional organizers in the coming weeks.
“In order to help fight back against the Virginia GOP’s horrible gerrymander, we are going into the House of Delegate races with our data-driven field programs,” said Senior Advisor Tracy Mayfield. “Republican control of the House of Delegates is holding Virginia back, and we know that Democrats are enthusiastic to make a change in 2017.”
This program marks the first time PTP is targeting a state legislative race. This cycle, they will expand their impact by participating in select state legislative races that are competitive and important for redistricting efforts.
All Virginia Delegates will stand before voters this November. In large part because of the Republican gerrymander of district lines, the GOP currently holds 66 of the 100 seats. However, Hillary Clinton won 51 of the districts in the 2016 election.
With the Virginia House of Delegate elections taking place in odd-numbered years when Democratic turnout decreases more than Republican turnout, PTP’s work to increase voter participation is critical.

Progressive Turnout Project is a grassroots Political Action Committee (PAC) with a single mission: get Democrats to the polls. They design, test, and execute specialized voter turnout programs targeting sporadic Democratic voters in the most competitive districts in the country. In the 2016 cycle, they raised more than 5 million dollars from over 93,000 donors and participated in 19 congressional races. Learn more at www.turnoutpac.org.
