Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is A and I’m from Saint Peters, MO. I got a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Missouri State University and my hobbies include reading, comic books, and board games.

Q: When did you first become interested in politics?

I am a trans queer person and I finally came out this past year. I changed my name in February as a birthday present to myself, it was and is my greatest pride. I’ve had many struggles concerning my identity, from family and friends rejecting me to laws that continue to prevent me from fully embracing myself. I learned from a young age that the Democrats stand up for people like me, this launched my desire to fight for human rights, for the LGBT community, people of color, and women.

Q: Why did you decide to join PTP?

I decided to join PTP because I wanted to make a difference in this election cycle.

Q: How have your past experiences helped prepare you as a Field Rep?

I worked with teenagers for two years as a residential counselor at an early-entrance-to-college program, which has certainly been beneficial at the doors because it helped me learn how to start conversations and form trust. I worked with students one-on-one, and in groups to support them emotionally, socially, and academically. I was able to connect with them and guide them, and this experience helped me grow and continues to help me in my work as a field representative.

Q: What is the best tactic that you use to get someone to commit to vote?

It varies depending on what neighborhood I’m in. In some areas, the voters are less interested in having a conversation, so I am very straightforward and to-the-point. I talk to them about the importance of voting and only that. In other areas, I am more successful by having a friendly conversation and talking about the things that matter to both the voter and myself.

Q: What was the most memorable encounter you’ve had with someone while working as a field rep?

One time, I knocked on a door and a couple answered. They were passionate about LGBTQ issues and asked about my pronoun usage. When I told them I was trans/non-binary, they were very supportive and asked how they could be supportive in their career roles. I was very touched by this experience.

Q: Who is your favorite character from a movie or book?

Dumbledore is my favorite character because of his passion for fairness and his wisdom. He was brilliant and humble, and was a lifelong learner. I hope to be like him one day.

Q: What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

My dog, Thorgi.
