Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself and where you’re from.

I am from Omaha, Nebraska and recently moved to Georgia last year with my family.  I was introduced to politics while attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. With the help of my mentor, I landed an internship in the Governor’s Policy Research Office and that lead to a job on the Governor’s staff until graduation. After working in Nonprofit training-administration for several years, I returned to public service and worked as a Community Liaison for Law Enforcement and then served as Special Assistant for Urban Affairs & Community Engagement in the Mayor’s office. While in Atlanta I have been working on becoming more familiar and involved in the political climate here!

Q: What specifically about PTP appealed to you?

I am excited that PTP’s main focus is on increasing voter turnout in high stakes elections. In recent years, politics has become more polarized and people feel as though their voices are not being heard. PTP seeks to understand what is motivating/compelling citizens to vote thus shifting the focus back to issues and less about party/personalities.  I believe this research will be valuable as the Democratic party rebuilds itself.

Q: Who is your role model within politics?

WOW… there is not just one person. My first mentor, saw my potential and offered me many opportunities and guidance shaping the beginning of my public service career. Also, I really admire the efforts of President Obama. He was a game changer. He took his experience as a grassroots community organizer in Chicago and became a voice for everyday working-class people within his community. He really is a good example of activism at the local, state, and national levels.

Q: With the election less than 2 weeks away, what’s the mood been like in Georgia?

There is tons of continued excitement surrounding this race! A win would mean A LOT to the citizens of GA-06 and the Democratic party nationwide. I am hopeful we can #FLIPTHE6. This election has certainly laid the foundation for the 2018 races. It is exciting to see individuals, groups, and organizations mobilize on behalf of effective progressive change. I’ve spoken with citizens who haven’t been this politically engaged since the late 1960’s.

Q: What is the biggest challenge to working in Georgia? What is the best part?

The best part of about this experience is seeing citizens mobilizing and becoming engaged across generations. It shows that people’s ideas, perceptions, and values are becoming more inclusive. Personally, the biggest challenge has been the adjustment to the unpredictable weather. It is horrible for my allergies.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do in Georgia?

I love FOOTBALL! So I love football season and anything involving the ARTS!
