SURVEY FINDS MAJORITY OF PEOPLE NEVER ACTUALLY CONTACTED BY CAMPAIGN VOLUNTEERS

A Progressive Turnout Project e-mail survey has found that fewer than half of the 68,808 respondents have ever been contacted by a campaign volunteer over the phone or in person to discuss an election. At a time when hundreds of millions of dollars are spent on political broadcast ads which air outside of their intended district 75% of the time, these results should be a wake-up call to campaigns that more must be done to reach voters one-on-one.

Progressive Turnout Project aims to show Democratic campaigns that speaking to voters one-on-one is a more effective and more efficient use of resources than just spending more money on expensive broadcast ads. Not only are 75% of congressional campaign commercials wasted on the wrong voters, a 2014 Pew Research Center survey also found that 53% of registered voters generally don’t pay attention to such commercials.
We believe that by having authentic conversations with individual voters – rather than inundating them with generic ads – we can ensure more people stay engaged in the process and ultimately turn out to vote. With over 400,000 PTP supporters, it’s clear many others agree!
