What do our supporters think?

Without our great supporters, none of us here at Progressive Turnout Project would be able to accomplish our mission of increasing Democratic voter turnout. Your input motivates us and helps us develop a message that will resonate with Democratic voters at their door, and your financial support gives us the resources to do so. As Supporter Communications Director, I speak with current and potential supporters every day and I wanted to take a moment to share a little more about who supports us and what we’ve learned from them.

Who are PTP’s supporters?
We’re extremely proud that our organization is built on grassroots support rather than the contributions of just a few wealthy benefactors. We have more than 800,000+ supporters with an average contribution of just $14 and we’re growing every day. It’s amazing what can be accomplished when everyday people join together for a cause.
Our supporters come from all 50 states and 4 US territories. While it may not surprise anyone that the largest portion of our supporters comes from the solidly blue state of California, it is interesting to note that Texas actually ranks fourth. Regardless of location around the country, we’re uniting progressives everywhere to build our movement.
What have PTP supporters told us?
While financial support is necessary to give us the resources we need, the input our supporters provide through surveys is just as valuable. Without hearing from you about the issues and strategies you care about, our field representatives would not have the knowledge necessary to speak with Democratic voters in the most effective way to improve turnout. Now that the primaries are all finished, I thought it would be a good time to share the results of some of our recent surveys with you.
Unsurprisingly, we’re not the only ones concerned about Democratic turnout: 89% of you said you were “somewhat concerned” or “very concerned” about low voter turnout in the Democratic Primary!

On the whole, most of our supporters – 59% – are at least somewhat satisfied with the 2016 Democratic primary overall, but a sizeable portion – 39% – told us they are very dissatisfied, indicating there is work to be done to improve the primary process.

A plurality of our supporters support keeping caucuses as part of the presidential nomination process, but over one fifth of respondents (or 7,400 out of 35,920) were unsure one way or the other.

On the other hand, there is a much greater consensus that the Democratic Party should abolish superdelegates.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts with us on these and many other issues, and thank you to those of you who have made contributions as well. We can’t create a Voter Turnout Movement without you!
