Joe Biden Wins Progressive Turnout Project Post-Debate Flash Poll
More than 25% of grassroots supporters express preference for Former Vice President

CHICAGO—Former Vice President Joe Biden emerged as the winner of Progressive Turnout Project’s flash poll following the second Democratic debate tonight in Detroit. Of the 11,292 participants who opted-in to the poll, Biden earned the support of 25.3 percent of respondents in the hour after the debate.

“Tonight the Progressive Turnout Project community made clear that they’re confident in Former Vice President Joe Biden’s vision for America, as well as his ability to bring us together and defeat Donald Trump next November,” said Executive Director Alex Morgan.

The grassroots-funded political action committee conducted its flash poll immediately following the candidates’ closing statements by sending text messages to previously engaged activists, donors, and supporters who indicated that they planned to watch the Democratic debates. Senator Elizabeth Warren won the previous night’s poll with the support of 46.9 percent of its participants.

“With four presidential debates behind us, our party’s base is rallying around strong candidates like Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden,” said Morgan. “Most important, our supporters have made it clear that once this competitive primary comes to a close, we need to come together and do everything we can to defeat Donald Trump.”

While the poll was not scientific, Morgan believes it is a strong barometer for enthusiasm among the Democratic party’s progressive base. The full results of the poll are as follows:

Joe Biden 25.3 percent
Undecided 18.5 percent
Cory Booker 16.5 percent
Kamala Harris 12.5 percent
Jay Inslee 6.5 percent
Andrew Yang 5.8 percent
Julián Castro 5.0 percent
Tulsi Gabbard 3.8 percent
Kirsten Gillibrand 3.5 percent
Michael Bennet 1.8 percent
Bill de Blasio 0.7 percent

“Progressive Turnout Project does not plan to endorse candidates in the 2020 primary,” said Morgan. “We’re proud to have a strong field of candidates who are talking about important issues like democracy reform and voting rights, and who will lead us to victory next November.”
