Maine Citizens Have Every Right to Challenge Susan Collins
Progressive Turnout Project Executive Director Alex Morgan released the following statement regarding Senator Collins’ comments:
“This week Susan Collins crossed the line when she made blatantly false claims about a Maine based grassroots campaign to oppose her should she go against her principles and vote to confirm Donald Trump’s extreme nominee to the Supreme Court.”
“We support the Mainers who have established this crowdfunding campaign and we will stand with them if they need to oppose Susan Collins in 2020.”
“In the wake of the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United decision, grassroots activists have had no choice but to band together and exercise their First Amendment right to political speech.”
“It’s ironic that in her last campaign, 97 percent of Susan Collins’ support came from Super PACs, lobbyists, and special interests, but this week she takes issue with everyday citizens stepping up with small dollar contributions to a grassroots campaign.”
“The bottom line is that Susan Collins owes it to Maine residents to defend their access to healthcare and the right to make their own medical decisions. Maine residents are counting on her to reject Brett Kavanaugh.”
