Progressive Turnout Project Commends Danny O’Connor on a Competitive Campaign in Ohio Special Election
Organization commits to continue program through November election

COLUMBUS— Progressive Turnout Project congratulates Danny O’Connor on a competitive campaign in the close race in Ohio’s special election. In total, Progressive Turnout Project spent more than $250,000 to turn out Ohio Democrats ahead of the special election.
“While it took the entire Republican establishment to drag Troy Balderson across the finish line, Progressive Turnout Project is proud of Danny O’Connor and his campaign for taking this district that voted for Donald Trump by 11 percent and bringing it to within 1 percent of a Democratic victory,” said Executive Director Alex Morgan.
Progressive Turnout Project launched a robust 15-person field program in early June. The organization’s Field Representatives knocked on more than 55,000 doors and made over 50,000 phone calls to likely Democratic voters. Additionally, the group sent out more than 88,000 pieces of mail and more than 10,000 peer-to-peer text messages to motivate voters to participate in this critical election. Their efforts resulted in thousands of commitments to vote across the battleground district.
“While we came up short tonight, there are plenty of districts across the country that are much more evenly split than this Republican-held district,” said Morgan. “If Democrats are going to ride a blue wave in November then they better invest in organizers and focus their attention on turnout voters right now,” said Morgan.
The organization will continue their field program through the November general election in support of Sherrod Brown and Danny O’Connor.
