Progressive Turnout Project Applauds Senate Companion Bill to For The People Act
Progressive Turnout Project Executive Director Alex Morgan released the following statement regarding the For The People Act:
“Today, Senator Udall and 47 Democratic co-sponsors will introduce the For The People Act, a Senate companion bill to H.R.1, to fight corruption, fix our broken political system, and give power back to the people.”
“Just a few weeks ago, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the For The People Act (H.R.1) with all 235 Democrats co-sponsoring the bill.”
“With every House and Senate Democrat co-sponsoring this once-in-a-generation legislation, Democrats have made it clear that restoring power back to the people is a priority.”
“Mitch McConnell has preemptively refused to bring the For The People Act to the floor for a vote and we have to ask why–what is he so afraid of? Afraid of making the political system more fair and accountable?”
“Protecting and expanding voting rights, enacting needed campaign finance reforms, and strengthening our ethics laws is not a partisan issue–it’s a core democratic issue and we need to act.”
“We call on Mitch McConnell to bring the For The People Act to the floor for a vote and let the people decide through their representatives the fate of this bill.”
