Progressive Turnout Project Congratulates Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrats on Convening of 116th Congress
Progressive Turnout Project Executive Director Alex Morgan released the following statement:
“It’s a new day for democracy as Republican one-party rule comes to an end and Democratic oversight returns to Washington,” said Alex Morgan, Executive Director of Progressive Turnout Project. “Democrats are fortunate to have Speaker Nancy Pelosi wielding the House gavel. Speaker Pelosi has proven herself as one of the most effective legislative leaders in our nation’s history and is the right person to lead the charge to re-open the federal government, defend the Affordable Care Act, and expand and protect our right to vote.”
“For 13 days, Donald Trump has put our national security at risk and failed to fulfill one of his most fundamental responsibilities by refusing to fund the federal government. We applaud Speaker Pelosi and Democrats for bringing an immediate vote to the floor of the House to fund the federal government and get Washington back to work.”
