Progressive Turnout Project Hails Introduction of H.R. 1
Progressive Turnout Project Executive Director Alex Morgan released the following statement regarding the For The People Act:

“Our democracy is broken,” said Alex Morgan, Executive Director of Progressive Turnout Project. “Since Citizens United, big money and precision voter suppression tactics have had a massive influence on our elections and government. Progressive Turnout Project, driven by our base of small-dollar donors, helped elect House Democrats because of their commitment to making it easier, not harder, to vote, and that’s why we’re thrilled by the introduction of H.R. 1 this morning.”
“H.R. 1 is the first step toward fixing our democracy. We believe that every American should have their voice heard, every candidate should be able to run and win with the will of the people and not powerful special interests, and that elected officials should be held accountable to their constituents first and foremost. H.R.1 will restore these core democratic values.”
“We applaud Speaker Pelosi, Representative Sarbanes, and House Democrats for this bold package of democratic reforms and for making voting rights a top priority.”
“H.R. 1 prioritizes fixes to ongoing problems at the ballot box and calls for sweeping changes to make voting more accessible for all Americans. By requiring automatic voter registration, access to early voting, and eliminating voter-purging practices and gerrymandering, we can ensure every American is heard.”
