PROGRESSIVE TURNOUT PROJECT LAUNCHES ADVOCACY PROGRAM
“PROTECT OUR VOTE NORTH CAROLINA”

Today Progressive Turnout Project (PTP) launched a grassroots advocacy program called “Protect Our Vote North Carolina” to hold Tar Heel Republicans accountable for egregiously gerrymandered legislative maps and restrictive voter identification laws.
Working with activists and volunteers in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro, the advocacy program demands that the state legislature establishes a nonpartisan redistricting commission and objects to additional voting restrictions.
As part of the program, staff and volunteers will gather thousands of signed postcards from North Carolinians who are fed up with the lack of accountability and representation in the state and deliver them to the State Capitol.
“The newest GOP maps are still unacceptable to the people of North Carolina, who must be able to elect officials who represent their diverse state. It’s time for the systematically suppressed voters in North Carolina to be able to cast a truly meaningful vote,” said Progressive Turnout Project Senior Advisor Tracy Mayfield.
This program marks the second state legislative-focused campaign run by PTP. The organization targets state legislative races in select states where the legislature plays a key role in redistricting. In addition to North Carolina, they currently have 25 field staff on the ground in Virginia dedicated to turning out Democrats to vote in competitive House of Delegate races this November.
PTP also targets competitive congressional districts with specialized field programs to turn out inconsistently voting Democrats. In the 2016 cycle, the organization ran voter turnout programs in 19 congressional races.
PTP, a grassroots PAC, has raised $3.7 million from more than 85,000 donors through the first six months of 2017.
