Progressive Turnout Project Supports Democrat Phil Bredesen with $170,000 Mail Program
Grassroots-funded organization sending social pressure mail ahead of Election Day

CHICAGO—Progressive Turnout Project spent more than $170,000 on a social pressure mail program in support of Democrat Phil Bredesen for U.S. Senate in Tennessee. Likely Democrats across the Volunteer State will receive mail that encourages them to cast their ballots by Election Day.
“Republican Marsha Blackburn’s extreme agenda has no place in the United States Senate, so we’re reaching out to Tennessee voters to remind them how important it is to show up and have their voices heard on November 6th,” said Executive Director Alex Morgan.
The organization’s social pressure mail program is designed to boost voter turnout among inconsistent Democratic voters as well as first-time registrants who may be less familiar with the voting process. Studies have shown that sending voters their own voting record or their community’s voting record can increase turnout as much as 8 percent. To date, Progressive Turnout Project has sent more than 2 million pieces of social pressure mail.
“At a time when people like Donald Trump and Marsha Blackburn are spreading so much misinformation, it’s important for groups like us to provide voters with the plain and simple facts about how easy it is to go to the polls and cast their ballots,” said Morgan.
Progressive Turnout Project has hired and trained more than 400 staff in 64 battleground districts and states where they are getting out the vote ahead of the crucial November election. The organization recently increased its reach and is investing in an additional 31 races as Democrats look to take back the House and Senate in November.
