Progressive Turnout Project Endorses Terry McAuliffe for Virginia Governor
CHICAGO – Progressive Turnout Project today endorsed voting rights champion Terry McAuliffe for Virginia governor, based on his proven commitment to voting accessibility across the Commonwealth. Below is a statement from Progressive Turnout Project’s Executive Director, Alex Morgan:
“At a time when our democracy is under unprecedented attack, we need leaders who will go big and bold when it comes to protecting and expanding the right to vote. For Virginia, there’s no better champion than Terry McAuliffe to serve as governor and defend our democracy.
“Terry has been on the front lines of the fight to expand access to the ballot box. As Virginia’s 72nd Governor, he repeatedly fought off attacks from an extreme Republican-led legislature, and successfully restored voting rights to more than 173,000 Virginians, more than any governor in American history.
“During his campaign this year, Terry has continued to advocate for expanded ballot access, calling for a constitutional amendment to automatically restore voting rights to Virginians previously convicted of felonies.
“Progressive Turnout Project, including its hundreds of Voter Turnout Fellows, thousands of Postcards to Swing States volunteers, and millions of supporters, plan to work tirelessly between now and November 2nd to ensure Virginia Democrats get out to vote, so that Terry and Democrats up and down the ticket can get to work building a Commonwealth that works for everyone.”
Below is a statement from Terry McAuliffe regarding Progressive Turnout Project’s endorsement:
“I am honored to receive the Progressive Turnout Project’s endorsement, a group that shares my passion for making it easier and more accessible for Virginians to participate in our democracy here in the Commonwealth,” said Terry McAuliffe. “Restoring voting rights to 173,000 Virginians is one of the proudest moments of my life and as Virginia’s next governor I will continue to ensure the right to vote is both protected and expanded.”
