Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m John and I’m from Appleton, Wisconsin. I have a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. I enjoy watching movies, playing board games and playing disc golf.

Q: When did you first become interested in politics?

I first became interested in politics during my second year of college. I had switched my majors a couple of times and did not have a full grasp of what direction I wanted to go in my studies. Once I took my first political science course I realized that I wanted to learn more about government and how people with different political opinions communicated with each other to find common ground and compromise together.

Q: Why did you decide to join PTP?

I’ve always wanted to get involved with a grassroots political organization that I shared a lot in common with. I consider myself a progressive minded person and I’m also very concerned about moving this country forward into the future and to solve some of the biggest problems facing us in the 21st century. After I spoke with PTP I knew that working with them would be a great experience where I could help people in my community get involved in the voting process.

Q: How have your past experiences helped prepare you as a Field Representative?

I have a lot of experience interacting with people through digital media, telecommunications and face to face interactions due to my many years of sales and customer service. I feel that I am at my best when I can be creative and informative when I am interacting with people, and I’m very thankful that working for PTP gives me that opportunity.

Q: What was the most memorable encounter you’ve had with someone while working as a Field Representative?

I had a great interaction with a mother and daughter who were nice enough to invite me into their home to talk about the voting process. The mother informed me that this would be her daughter’s first time voting and she was also bringing her two younger children to the polls to show them how important it was to get out and vote. She understood that voting is an important civic duty that should be passed down to the younger generations.

Q: Assuming you became President tomorrow and had the ability to immediately pass one law, what would it be and why?

If I could pass one law, it would be to overturn the Citizens United ruling. I understand that money will always be used to influence people, but it corrupts a democracy when unlimited amounts of money can be used to sway elections and the money can come from nearly anywhere or anyone. American Democracy should be about demonstrating the power of voting by individual citizens, regardless of how much money they have.

Q: What superpower would you most want to have?

If I could have one superpower, I would chose the ability to fly. I have always loved flying and even considered becoming a pilot at one point. I think that there is something special about soaring through the skies and having a magnificent view of the clouds, sky and earth below.
