Progressive Turnout Project Announces 59 Legislative Candidates in Texas

For Immediate Release
August 3, 2022

CHICAGO–Progressive Turnout Project is proud to announce the endorsement of 59 state legislative candidates across Texas. These candidates are essential to protecting voting rights and pushing back against the extreme Republican agenda that is negatively impacting millions of Texans.

These endorsed candidates will be eligible to participate in Progressive Turnout Project’s Campaign Fellows Program, which will bring an investment of up to $400,000 to selected Texas candidates by directly supporting campaigns with a paid staff member dedicated to voter contact. Adding just one full-time staff member can make all the difference, especially in state legislative races, which typically see less attention.

This kind of direct voter contact is how elections are won—and PTP is thrilled to offer this level of support to Texas Democrats.

“I am ecstatic to partner with the Progressive Turnout Project and work together towards a more promising Texas,” said Senate Caucus Chairwoman Senator Carol Alvarado. “The Fellows program provides a crucial investment in galvanizing Democrats across our state. Our shared mission is to fight against the radical right, to protect those most vulnerable in our communities, protect women’s right to choose, and ensure a sustainable future. These issues are at the forefront of our ballots this November. Texas’ future is brighter with PTP and the Texas Democrats working together this fall.”

“I am so thrilled that the Progressive Turnout Project is focusing on our highly competitive Texas House races for the 2022 midterm elections,” added House Caucus Chairwoman Toni Rose. “PTP recognizes how important building in Texas is-especially through field work. That’s how we win tough elections. Their endorsements of our Members and candidates in competitive seats are just the beginning of that work. As Chair of the Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee, I look forward to growing our partnership as we move forward.”

Progressive Turnout Project is investing up to $5 million to elect Democrats in state legislatures across the country to combat Republican attempts at undermining the future of our communities.
