CHICAGO–Progressive Turnout Project is proud to stand with Defend Justice, a program of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, by mobilizing its supporters across the state and encouraging them to demand their legislators oppose efforts to impeach, convict or remove Supreme Court Justice Janet Protasiewicz.
Wisconsin voters went to the polls on April 4, 2023 and freely and fairly elected Justice Protasiewicz by an 11-point margin. Wisconsin Republicans are now threatening to undermine the will of the voters by impeaching, convicting and removing Justice Protasiewicz from office, an obvious political power grab.
PTP Executive Director Alex Morgan released the following statement:
“Wisconsin Republicans are shameless in their efforts to manipulate our democratic systems to retain power. Wisconsin voters elected Supreme Court Justice Janet Protasiewicz in April and unfounded impeachment attempts spearheaded by the GOP infringe on the will of voters.”
“A simple majority is all that is required to unjustly impeach Justice Protasiewicz. Republicans gave themselves a permanent majority through extreme partisan gerrymandering in both the state’s Assembly and Senate chambers. This kind of blatant power grab undermines election results for the political gain of the party in power.”
“This week Progressive Turnout Project mobilized our Wisconsin supporters, and asked them to defend democracy by contacting their legislator and telling them not to impeach, convict or remove Justice Protasiewicz.”
“Wisconsin Republicans should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves for even humoring this blatant power grab.”
