Progressive Turnout Project Endorses Joe Biden for President
CHICAGO – Progressive Turnout Project today endorsed Joe Biden for president. With his most recent pledge to support nationwide same-day voter registration and restore voting rights to the formerly incarcerated, Biden is the most qualified candidate to secure our elections, protect our voters, and bring new leadership to the White House. Below is a statement from Progressive Turnout Project’s Executive Director, Alex Morgan:
“Since Trump has taken office, our democracy has been under constant assault. The Trump Party has shamelessly ramped up voter purges, increased voter ID laws, mandated language barriers on ballots, closed polling places, and gerrymandered districts to dilute votes. And now they’re using a global pandemic to hold sham elections like what we saw in Wisconsin. We literally cannot afford four more years of Donald Trump.
“If we want to end these harmful policies, keep voters safe during this pandemic, and pass bold, democracy reform legislation like H.R.1 and H.R.4, we’re going to need Joe Biden leading at the helm to unite Democrats and undo the damage Republicans have caused.
“Joe Biden has been a champion for democracy reform throughout his entire career. He fought for public financing of elections in the 70s and a constitutional amendment in the 90s that would have prevented the damage from Citizens United. It’s clear that Biden has the decades of experience and skills that we need to save our democracy.
“With less than 200 days before the election, we need to come together as progressives and do everything we can to elect Joe Biden — the only candidate in the race who actually cares about the lives and rights of voters. At Progressive Turnout Project, we’ll be knocking on millions of doors to ensure that the American people hold Republicans accountable for abandoning them during this crisis.”
