Progressive Turnout Project Endorses Mike Espy in Mississippi

CHICAGO—Progressive Turnout Project today endorsed Mike Espy in his 2018 campaign for U.S. Senate in Mississippi. Espy’s strong understanding of the barriers many voters face at the polls and his support for efforts to restore the full Voting Rights Act, expansion of early voting to all states are several of the reasons why he earned the support of the grassroots-funded organization.
“We’re proud to support Mike Espy for Senate because we know he will fight to restore the Voting Rights Act and expand access to the ballot for all Americans,” said Executive Director Alex Morgan. “From striking down the barriers and efforts to suppress voter participation to ensuring the right to vote is equally accessible to all Americans, we trust Mike will be a voting rights champion in Congress.”
Today’s endorsement is part of a larger effort by Progressive Turnout Project to expand its impact in the 2018 election. The grassroots-funded organization released an expansive watch list in January and followed up with the announcement of 18 field programs in May. PTP hired a Fellows Program Coordinator in July to support additional candidates.

“Our more than 3 million supporters and 265,000 grassroots donors have been loud and clear that we need to do everything we can to win by supporting candidates who will represent our values and defend our democracy,” said Morgan.

Progressive Turnout Project asks campaigns to complete an endorsement questionnaire that asks about critical voting rights issues such as the restoration of the Voting Rights Act, automatic voter registration, early voting, no excuse absentee voting, and voter ID laws. The grassroots-funded organization has endorsed 56 candidates this cycle.
