Small-dollar contributions bring organization’s year-end total to $7.7 million

CHICAGO — Progressive Turnout Project (PTP) raised $2.36 million in the fourth quarter, putting the national Democratic organization at $7.7 million raised in 2017.
More than 190,000 small-dollar donors have contributed to the organization since its inception in late 2015. In 2017, the group saw a 64 percent increase over 2016 fundraising with an average contribution of $12.66.
“The resistance fueled our efforts in 2017, giving us the opportunity to make significant on-the-ground investments in competitive states like Virginia ” said Executive Director Alex Morgan.
With 2017 being an off-year, the group diversified its efforts and invested in special elections and state legislative races for the first time. Progressive Turnout Project ran a 25-person field program in Virginia and successfully flipped 10 Virginia House of Delegate districts. The group also made significant investments in field staff, mail, and digital ads in Montana’s At-Large congressional district and Georgia’s 6th congressional district.
In addition the group invested in get out the vote efforts in the following races: Doug Jones for Alabama U.S. Senate, Phil Murphy for New Jersey Governor, Brian Sullivan for New Hampshire State House District Sullivan 1, Erika Connors for New Hampshire State House District Hillsborough 15, Sara Cambensy for Michigan State House District 109, Paul Feeney for Massachusetts State Senate Bristol-Norfolk District, Kari Lerner for New Hampshire State House District Rockingham 4, Annette Taddeo for Florida State Senate District 40, and South Carolina’s 5th congressional district.
Looking ahead to 2018, Progressive Turnout Project will design, test, and execute specialized voter turnout programs in targeted House and Senate races across the country to get Democrats to the polls and take back Congress. The group plans to release an initial district watchlist next week.
