Progressive Turnout Project Supports Declaration for American Democracy Coalition 2020 Platform
Today, Progressive Turnout Project signed on to an open letter urging all 2020 presidential candidates to make comprehensive democracy reform a central part of their campaign platform. The letter and platform were drafted by the Declaration for American Democracy coalition and signed by more than 100 coalition partners.
“Our coalition is dedicated to protecting every Americans’ right to vote, getting big money out of politics, and holding leaders in Washington accountable,” said Alex Morgan, Executive Director. “And that includes future leaders, too. Americans need to hear more than where presidential candidates stand on the issues, they need to know what actions these candidates will take.”
The coalition and Progressive Turnout Project know that democracy only works when every Americans’ voice is heard at the polls. It’s time to step up and ask all 2020 presidential candidates what their plans are to make voting more accessible and bring accountability, ethics, and transparency to government.
Similar to H.R. 1 and S.949, known as the For the People Act, the 2020 platform prioritizes creating a solid foundation for needed voting rights, campaign finance, and ethics reforms. This includes protecting the right to vote from discriminatory rules or gatekeeping, getting big money out of politics, and allowing more transparency in elections and government.

Americans deserve to know that their representatives are prioritizing the people’s interests, not the interests of big corporations with millions to spend.
